Senior A team reach League Final (D’Evening Eko Reports)

On a beautiful surface, at Abbottstown last Saturday the Senior A Hurlers took a third Kilkenny scalp, in this league, when they beat Clara on a score of 1.15 to 0.16. Clara got off to a flying start and had notched up 2 points before Boden settled into the game. However once Doc O’Connor fired over a point, Boden settled down to business and went on to dominate the game from there to half time.  Doc O’Connor contributed 1.3 during that first half, the goal was a real gem. That goal gave Boden a real boost in confidence and allowed them to play with flair, while picking off some great scores.  Another positive feature of the first half was that Boden only struck 2 wides and limited their free count to 2 against, a big improvement on recent games. The first half ended with Boden Leading on a score of 1.10 to 0.6.

As in the first half Clara started strongly and scored 4 points without reply. Paul Doherty eventually got Boden’s first score of the half, with a pointed free. Clara went on to dominated most of the second half, while picking off some excellent points and in the process reduced Boden’s lead to the minimum. However the last score of the game, a point by that man Doc O’Connor, saw Boden home safely on a score of 1.15 to 0.16.

Over all this was a very good performance by a Boden team which, played some great hurling, picked of great scores but most of all  showed great spirit, when the pressure came on in the second half from a strong Clara team. Boden will now play Buffer’s Alley in the Leinster League Final.

Scorers for Boden were; Doc O ‘Connor (1.4). Paul Doherty 5pts(3frees). Niall Ryan 4pts. F. McGarry & Ronan Cleary 1pt each.

The team was; Keith Robinson, Eoin Small, Dean Curran, Malachy Travers, Kenny Wigglesworth, David Curtin, Jamie Desmond, Rob. Leddy, Finn McGarry, Ronan Cleary, Conor McCormack, Niall Ryan, David O’Connor, Brendan Treacy, Paul Doherty. Sub. Finnian McDonnagh.
