Senior A Hurlers Start Campaign

Boden Senior A Hurlers started their championship campaign with a comprehensive win over Crumlin in O’Toole Park on Friday evening.

Boden captain, Dean Curran elected to play with the wind in the first half.  It took the team a while to settle but an opportunist Conal Keaney goal mid-way through the half was a signal for Boden to turn on the style.

David O’Callaghan had opened the scoring after just 30 seconds.  He scored 5 from play in his first Championship game for Boden and was a constant thorn in Crumlin’s side, particularly in the first half.  Keaney, Ryan, Mc Morrow, Durkin and McCormack added to the scoreboard leaving the half time score at 1-18 to 0.07.

Crumlin were expected to come out strongly for the second half and an early goal from Stephen Cullen gave them a little hope.  But goals from McCormack, Ryan and Keaney ensured that the game was over as a contest well before the final whistle came in the quickly fading light. Keaney’s second goal was a real gem.  A pin point 40 yard pass from Paul Ryan was finished with the proverbial bullet.

Gary Maguire made one outstanding save which was all the more remarkable when one considers that the fading light made it very difficult to see the sliotar.

Paul Carley will be pleased with this performance but we know, with respect to Crumlin, that there are stiffer challenges to come. There were some sterling performances on the night.  Paul Ryan got 1 08 on the night, including 7 from frees and a point from a line ball.  Keaney, who had a quiet evening got 2 03 from play!! It was good to see Conor McCormack back in action and he contributed with a fine individual goal.  Stephen Hiney, James Madden and debutant, Kenny Wigglesworth , had fine performances at the back.  The man of the match award on the evening, after some consultation with some respected commentators, goes to Niall McMorrow.
