The Ballyboden Ladies B team made a great start to the 2022 Junior A Championship with a 7-point victory over north side rivals Naomg Barróg on Wednesday evening (10th August) in Kilbarrack Parade.

On a beautiful evening for football, Ballyboden got off to a flying start with an early goal from Rebecca and points from Áine. However the lead was short-lived as Barróg struck for 2 goals and tagged on some good points. Chloe Murphy got us back in the game with a goal for Boden on 20 minutes. We continued to create some great scoring opportunities which eventually led to some excellent points scores. Barróg scored another goal just before the break to leave the half time score at 2 06 to 3 05 in favour of Barróg.

The second half remained competitive with fine scores by both teams but Ballyboden continued to create more chances and great finishing enabled Boden to outscore their opponents by 0 10 to 1 02. Ballyboden ran out eventual winners on a full-time score of  2 17 to 4 07.

It was a good performance overall from Boden. We take on local rivals Templeogue at home next Wednesday and this will be another test for this developing group of players. A word for referee Finbarr Shanahan who let the game flow and contributed to a fine game of football. Thanks again to Miriam Christie for looking after the first aid as well as providing excellent action photographs. For photos, see here

Postscript: Templeogue SS consolidated their position at the top of the Go-Ahead Junior A Championship Group B table with a 3:13 to 2:05 victory over our Senior B ladies in Pairc Uí Mhúrchú last Wednesday evening (17th August).

While it was a disappointing result for our girls, it will be all to play for when they meet Clontarf B on Sancta Maria Prunty on Wednesday (24th August) at 7pm.

Clontarf B are currently in joint second place with Ballyboden at the round robin stage with the winners of Wednesday’s game making it through to the next stage of Championship .

It would be great to get a big crowd up to the Prunty to support our girls.
