The Ballyboden Senior A Camogie team won the League Cup county final in a thriller against St. Vincents at Pairc Uí Mhurchú last Sunday morning.

St. Vincents took the early initiative scoring 4 points within the first 10 minutes and looked to be dominating proceedings. However, Boden responded with a well worked goal after an excellent passage of play. Vincents however, hit back scoring 2 goals in quick succession. Boden managed to stay in touch with a couple of points to reduce the deficit and reach half time 5 points adrift on a score line of 2-06 to 1-04.

Boden scored early in the second half to reduce the deficit to 3 points but two frees to Vincents stretched their lead to 5 points again. This would be the last time Vincents would score as the Boden girls were beginning to dominate the game and our defence was closing down the Vincents attack. Two points from Boden left a goal between the teams and with about five minutes left, a great passing move saw the ball hit the back of the Vincents net, to a great cheer from the crowd. The teams were level now and time was almost up. The next score would surely be the winner. St Vincents launched an attack and were about to score a point to win it but a superb block by the Boden defender saved the day. Boden launched a late attack which yielded a free, which was
scored to win the game by a point.

This was an excellent performance by the squad against a St Vincents team that have had the better results against Boden of late. The girls showed great fitness, skill and courage to claw back a 5 point deficit and secure a county title. Well done to the team and best of luck in the forthcoming championship.
