We are now in the last week of our ‘One Good Club’ programme, the five step youth mental health awareness initiative in association with Lidl, Jigsaw and the LGFA.
The last theme is GIVE which we launched last week with a number of different activities. Here’s how we have been getting on.
Members have been busy checking out is the ‘Smile’ really contagious by Giving a smile to friends and strangers alike! And of course with training back last week it was hard to contain those smiles on those happy faces on the pitches throughout the parish!
Our Committee was kept very busy this week wo-maning the hall for our Clothes and Food collections. We have been overwhelmed by the response to both appeals.
A huge thanks to all who have donated so far.
The Clothes Collection is aiming to raise much needed funds for our Ladies Sections, a means to Give back to our sections who have been so supportive of our One Good Club initiative.
The Food Collection is in support of the local Ballycullen Food Bank. We saw it as a fitting way to Give back to our neighbouring community.
On Thursday we launched an initiative whereby TY students GIVE their time to a Juvenile team, helping out at training, encouraging the younger girls, providing motivation and being positive role models. The students would be available to spend time with players who would benefit from one to one training and attention, and support players considering dropping out.
There are some players already helping out with Juvenile teams. It would be hoped should this ‘GIVE’ trial be successful that a more formal structure would be put in place to attract more older girls to take part in mentoring and roll it out to help support teams, and support players especially at stages where dropout rates are high ie the transition from U16 to Minor and Minor to Senior. Hopefully a lasting legacy from our One Good Club.
And finally we were delighted when our Adult Hurling Committee chose Jigsaw as their Charity beneficiary when they donated a percentage of the proceedings from their recent Virtual Treasure Hunt to Jigsaw Dublin South West. Many thanks to the committee.
