A blistering 2nd quarter paved the way for the Boden girls’ win over St.Brigids in the U21 division 3 camogie championship final out in Abbotstown last Sunday.

The weather was continually threatening to hamper proceedings but thegame somehow dodged most of the rain & hail on a dark and dull afternoon. Despite the gloomy weather, the game was played on an impeccable pitch surface and the stage was set for a much anticipated final. These two sides met 2 weeks previously in the group stages of the competition with Brigids enjoying a fairly comfortable win against an under par Boden.

A strong start by St. Brigids catapulted them in a 6pt lead within the first 10mins of throw-in, however 2 well taken points from play by Shauna seemed to settle the Boden side who then followed with additional points from Julie and goals from Caoimhe and Neasa. The Boden girls had completely flipped this game on its head and blindsided Brigids with a tally of 3:05 (all from play) to no score in this 2nd quarter and the Castleknockside seemed relieved to hear the half time whistle.

HT: Boden 3:05 St Brigids 1:03

A strong response from Brigids was anticipated and they registered the first score of the half within 3 mins of the start after a rocket of a shot was brilliantly deflected over the bar by Enya. The Boden girls enjoyed some decent but hard won possession, but credit to Brigids, clearly not wanting a repeat of the 1st half, they frustrated several of Boden’s attacks and the scores were hard got. However, it was Brigids that needed the scores more but they too came up against a brick wall time and time again. As the minutes passed by, the battles continued in a thrilling and physical game, the Boden girls defended their lead relentlessly. Brigids managed to convert just one more point with 10mins to go. The work done in the 1st half proved invaluable as despite being held scoreless in the 2nd half, Boden finished the game worthy & deserved winners.

A great end to a really good U21 campaign. Well done girls!
