Minor A Championship St Brigids 1-1 Ballyboden St Endas A 7-15

A few weeks ago as we came to the end of the Adult camogie season, the Board announced the starting dates for Minor championship. While the mentors looked forward to the off season, the girls were adamant that they wanted to enter the Minor competition. Sile Nic Coitir joined the management team and with a fresh panel of girls aged between 15 & 18, 100% commitment was promised.

In a group with old rivals St Brigids and neighbours Faughs, the top team will progress straight to the final so there is no room for error. We arrived in Castleknock on Sunday morning expecting another titanic struggle with St Brigids, with whom we have had many great contests throughout our juvenile years.

Captain Ciara O’ Neill deputised in goal for Ally who was playing an U16 football final on Sunday morning, and we played against a strong wind in the first half. The Boden girls brought great intensity from the first whistle and truth be told, Brigids were never allowed a chance to get a foothold in the game.

Hannah Hyland mopped up everything in the full back position, and outside her the half back line totally dominated with Hannah Leddy especially prominent. Midfield supplied plentiful ball to the forwards who picked off some terrific scores. Hollyn Kennedy picked off a couple a fine points from acute angles as well as 2 fine goals, with Emer O’ Leary popping over some fine long range points.

Claire Kirwan put in tireless work in the middle third and at half time Boden led 2-9 to nil, despite playing into the wind.

The second half saw the introduction of 2 more 15yr olds, Erica Tobin and Aisling Byrne. Both girls were prominent throughout the second half with Erica managing to bag herself a hat-trick! Despite a slow first 10 minutes of the second half, we stepped it up again and were clinical in front of goal. Jodie White found her range from placed balls.

Hollyn Kennedy then gave Ciara some respite and went into goal for the final 20 minutes, and Ciara was a constant menace in the full forward line. Eimear Butler made her return form injury and Jess Daly also entered the fray with 15 minutes to go, but was unfortunate to pick up a knock which hopefully will not keep her out for long.

Brigids did manage a couple of scores, but Boden finished strong and the final score was 7-15 to 1-1. Special mention to Cora Ryan & Laura Nagle who have experienced some ups and downs this year injury wise and both led form the front with dominant performances in the middle third.

The girls have set a very high benchmark for themselves, but if they continue to train with the same attitude in the coming weeks as they have done then we can look forward to the next tough encounter with Faughs.
