U16 C – Div 4 Camogie

The U16 C squad travelled over to Fingallians in Swords on Tuesday evening to play a refixed league game. The team was boosted by the support of three U14 players so we could field 13 a side as many of our regulars were unavailable. Thanks to these girls, their parents and mentor Jean for facilitating this gesture of club spirit!

Captain Sarah White won the toss and we played with a strong win in the first half. We had great possession won by Mia Smith and Lily in midfield but didn’t make the most of our chances. We had a long range goal from Mia, who also notched two points. Aoife Keady on her first appearance this season poached another goal so we led by 2-2 to 2-0 at half time.

They had three strong running players attacking from deep but the two Sarahs and Stephanie hooked and harried and spoiled effectively to counteract them.

We thought the wind advantage in the second half would be challenging but the Boden girls rose to the task with Ciara Doyle and Rena making good runs and Julie’ stick smasher’ Vaughan battling for every ball. Our full backs Mia and Zara ensured Sarah R didn’t have much to do as we held them scoreless for the 30 minutes, running out winners by 4-5 to 2-0 for our first win of the season.

Scorers:

Mia Smyth: 2-2

Ciara Doyle 1-2  (0-2 frees)

Aoife Keady 1-0

Lily Wende-Doyle 0-1 (free)
