Club Hurling Returns

After last weekend’s cancellations the club hurling season will, hopefully, commence in earnest the coming weekend.

This year the Adult Hurling Section will field 5 teams in the Go Ahead Adult Hurling Leagues, 2 teams at Under 19 and 2 teams at Under 17.  This is the first year of Under 19 and Under 19 Competitions and they replace the Minor Leagues and Championships which catered for Under 18.

The Leagues revert to an All County Leagues this year so we renew our trips to the Northside  this season.  The Senior A team plays in AHL 1 and start their campaign away to Naomh Barróg.  The Senior B team play in AHL 2and welcome St. Sylvester’s to Sancta Maria.   The Junior A team won last year’s championship and will play Intermediate Championship but continue to play in AHL 4.  They start at home to Clanna Gael Fontenoy, the team they beat in the Junior A final last November. The Junior B team play in AHL 6 and start away to Naomh Olaf.  The 5th team play in AHL 8 and start their season at home to Ballinteer St. John. All games are on Sunday, February 27th – check website for venues and times.

The Under 17 and Under 19 teams which were due to start last weekend will have to wait until February 6th for their first games of the season.

The Last Man Standing Fundraiser was a huge success ……. as of today (Monday) 121 were still standing. Well done to them. Thanks to all who participated and in particular thanks to all who assisted in making the Fundraiser such a success but special thanks to Emmet Pullan who spearheaded the event.

The Senior Hurlers will be wearing a new set of jerseys for their opening game.  They will feature the new Main Club Sponsor, SSC (Sports Surgery Clinic) on the front and will also proudly feature the Logo of Supervalu, the new Sponsor of the Adult Hurling Section on the back.  The section is proud to be supported by our local Supervalu in Knocklyon.  The deal coincides with the opening of their newly refurbished flagship store in Knocklyon on Thursday.  Supervalu have been a wonderful supporter of the section and the club over the years having recently supported the Breakfast Morning and the Virtual Treasure Hunt. All club members are invited to attend at 12 noon on Thursday 24th for the official opening.  Wear your Boden colours if you can make it.

Hopefully this year will have a more “normal” feel about it. Good luck to all our teams for the year ahead.
