Well, it wasn’t a bad weekend for Dublin football was it?

Congratulations to the Dublin footballers on a second All-Ireland victory in three years as they overcame Mayo in a gripping match. The boys in blue had to dig deep to win by a single point as Mayo pressed hard for a leveller in the dying moments. We’re especially proud of our own lads Declan & Darragh for their contribution during the campaign and of course Michael-Darragh who was voted Player of the Year by the Sunday Game panel. Well done Michael!

From a club perspective a great weekend for Dublin football started early on Sunday morning with our 3 Minor teams in Championship action. They put in terrific performances to win all 3 games scoring an unbelievable 15 goals and 44 points between them!  Well done to all concerned and thanks to all who supported.

Ballyboden minor A footballers had a comfortable win against Thomas Davis in Kiltipper on Sunday 22nd September, 2013. Playing with home advantage, Thomas Davis started with plenty of energy and good running from the middle of the field. They opened the scoring with a point after 2 minutes but points from James Madden, Colm Basquel and Cian Bates and a well worked goal from Warren Egan settled the Boden lads. The home side spurned a number of point chances under pressure from our defense. The home teams’ woes were further compounded when their centre forward was given a straight red card after 20 minutes. After that, Ballyboden pressed home their advantage and with Brian Bobbett and Tom Hanifin playing consistently well and getting the ball into the forwards, Boden finished the half with 1-3 without reply. The second half was a one sided affair with Sam Molony and Darragh Bolger coming more into the game and an excellent pass from Sam to James Madden was finished off in style by the centre forward. With all the team moving the ball well from defence, the Boden lads started to pile on the scores with 8 players in all scoring. One of the strengths of the team is the strong competition for places and with players like Conor Deane (0-1), Keith McCarron (1-0), Stephen Ward and Adam Carney coming on yesterday and a number of other players due back from injury, the momentum is starting to build at the right time ahead of the knock out stage of the championship.

Seniors and Inters continued with their preparation for c/ship with games against St.Vincents.

Thanks to all who made their way to the club on the eve of the All-Ireland final to sample the atmosphere, a great night was enjoyed by both Dubs and Mayo supporters and the usual mix of armchair punditry and bold predictions was enjoyed by all.
