Minor Championship
A disappointing day for our Minor football teams yesterday in the second round of their Championships. However there is still plenty to play for in the final round of group matches. Results and reports below.
- Minor A 0-13 Thomas Davis 2-12
- Minor B 1-10 Craobh Chiaráin 1-12 (Game abandoned)
- Minor C 0-09 Crumlin 3-13
Minor A Championship
Thomas Davis 2-12; Ballyboden 0-13
Ballyboden St Endas went to Kitipper Road on Sunday morning with high hopes of building on their opening round win over Ballymun, but a pacier Davis team had Ballyboden chasing the game from the start. Two first half goals from Davis saw them go in at the break three points up, 2- 6 to 0-9, with all Ballyboden’s points coming from play.
The second half saw Ballyboden struggling to cope with the platform that Davis built from the back. Davis were by far the most incisive team and their workrate and teamwork left Ballyboden struggling for possession. Ballyboden had good performances on the day from Shane Clayton, Cathal O’Dea and Oisín Ó Dúill . Forwards Warren Egan, Colm Basquel, Barra McGarry and Adam Carney all got some nice points from play but failed to create the goal chances needed to threaten the Davis lead.
Best wishes go to Adam Carney who suffered a knee injury in the closing stages. Hopefully he will make a quick recovery and be ready for the Castleknock game on Sunday week.
Scorers: Colm Basquel 0-4 (0-1f) Warren Egan 0-3; Barra McGarry 0-3; Daragh Langan 0-1; Adam Carney 0-2
Team: Jack Mahon, Oisín Ó Dúill, Shane Clayton, Cathal O Dea, Brian Bobbett, Cian Mellett, Neil Heston, Darragh Maguire, Brian Kirwan, Conor Deane, Colm Basquel, Barra McGarry, Adam Carney, Warren Egan, Dara Langan. Subs: Harry Coffey, Garret Crowley, Rian Cannon
Minor B Championship
BBSE Minor B 1-10 v 1-12 Craobh Chiaráin – Prunty Pitch, SantaMaria
This was a hard fought championship game with both teams fairly evenly matched, played in near perfect conditions on the Prunty pitch at Santa Maria. Ballyboden got off to a fine start with the opening point coming from a well taken free by Ruairí Kirwan. The next score began with a fine clearance from Oisín Tobin in defence, who passed the ball to Cian Kelly, who set up Mark McGee for a lovely point from play. Cian Kelly went on to score two more points despite being on the receiving end of a high challenge to the face, which saw Ballyboden four points up before Craobh Chiaráin put their first score on the board. However Craobh Chiaráin did strike back with three unanswered points. The cross bar saw a lot of action denying Boden many chances in both the first and second half. A fine point from Rob Leddy put Boden ahead by two points. What followed next saw a Boden player being punched in the face, in an unsavoury incident, which unfortunately the referee did not see, and the Boden momentum was stalled. A point from Ross McGrath saw Boden ahead by two points at half time. BBSE 0-07 CrCh 0-05.
The second half saw some good fielding from Kevin Cronin and Cian Murray. The Craobh Chiaráin goalie succeeded in denying Mark McGee a goal, while at the other end of the field, the opposition were successful in taking their scores, BBSE 0-07 CrCh 0-07. Cian Kelly and Rob Leddy scored two more points to again put Boden ahead. However Craobh Chiaráin battled on and put our backs under considerable pressure. But Josh Kane in goal remained calm and kept the backs in order. James McDonnell, Oisín Tobin and Oisín Carolan must be commended for their brave defending and Liam Mullen was strong at wing back. But Craobh Chiaráin managed to pierce the defence with a goal. Then a Ruadháin Fanning spectacular goal kept Boden in the game. With the score at 1-10 to 1-12 in favour of Craobh Chiaráin, the match was abandoned by the referee due to a Craobh Chiaráin injury.
