St. Brigid’s 2 12 BBSE 0 13

Report from Dan the Man with Photos by Clíona Mellett

This game was always going to be a tough one, up against St. Brigid’s number two team who topped the overall Junior A Hurling championship with an unbeaten record. St. Brigids got off to a flying start with two early goals but Boden battled hard to get it back to 2-1 to 0-6 after the first quarter. Boden had the better of the exchanges in the second quarter but were dealt an unfortunate blow just before half time when they were down to 14 men after two yellows. With points in the opening half from Chris Lambert, Dan Nugent, Liam McCarthy, Fergal Ryan and Daniel O’Riordan, it was all even at the interval 2-3 to 0-9.

The second half was always going to be a challenge, also playing against a stiff breeze. Boden took the game to St. Brigids and were still level at the end of the third quarter 0-11 to 2-5. However, cracks and tired legs began to appear in the final quarter. A magnificent save by Matt Nolan from a close in free from St. Brigids accurate freetaker Kieran O’Sullivan kept Boden in the game. Boden kept fighting to the very end with further points being added by Dan Nugent, Fergal Ryan, Chris Lambert, Darren Lennox and Neal Farrell. However, the last quarter was to be St. Brigids, winning with the final score 2-12 to 0-13. Boden has much to look forward to in the next season with a great blend of youth and experience in the team and above all a fantastic group of players and mentors who support each other and enjoy themselves.
