Round 8 of of the 2019 Minor Football Division 1 League campaign saw the team travel to take on St. Vincents on their new 4G pitch on Sunday morning. A combination of injuries, holidays and Dublin minor team commitments meant that 11 of the squad were unavailable for the game and many thanks to Eoin Donne, David Keane, David Keogh and Ronan Long from the Under 16’s who stepped in for the match.
Ballyboden opened the scoring with early points from Luke Byrne and David Keane before the home team opened their account with a point followed by a goal.Further points from Vincents stretched their lead before Adam Kelleher, David Keane and Luke Byrne narrowed the gap but a second goal from Vincents put them out in front again. A well worked forward move from Ballyboden resulted in a penalty which was expertly converted by Adam Kelleher as the team began to settle. Jack Lambert, Conor Hanrahan, Joe Maguire and Joey Donohoe worked very hard in defence as Vincents continued to pressurise. An unfortunate incident before half time resulted in John McGuire having to retire injured as Ballyboden worked hard to get back into the game as further points from Adam Kelleher and Luke Byrne left the half time score 2.8 to 1.7 in favour of the home team.
Vincents had the wind advantage for the second half but Ballyboden opened the scoring with a point from David Keane. Eoin Donne made a couple of excellent saves from the Vincent’s attack but, eventually a third goal arrived before Malachy Codd and Luke Byrne replied with points. David Keogh and Ronan Long worked very hard when introduced with Conor Lowe and Pearce Christie striving valiantly in midfield. Points from the home team in the closing 10 minutes stretched the margin to 3.17 to 1.11 when the referee blew the full time whistle.
Well done to all the players on a great effort throughout the game with a special mention for the Under 16 players who worked so hard throughout the match. Thanks to the parents and Boden supporters who gave great encouragement to the team throughout the match and to Miriam Christie for the photos.
The next league match is at home on Wednesday 10th July against St. Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadh.
