The June Mini All Ireland continues to be a highlight in the Camogie Calendar. The 2015 version took place last Friday evening – June 12th. The date had been moved forward in June for a variety of reasons and the earlier date seemed to suit many parents with a huge turnout – just short of 200 children in total took part in the games.

The competition spread over 8 pitches in two groups saw eight teams compete at junior level (under 8’s, 9’s and 10’s) and a further eight teams in the senior competition for the under 11’s, 12’s and 13’s). A total of 36 games were played.

The under 16 teams provided the referees who did a great job throughout – offering the younger players in particular constant encouragement. The under 14’s showed they have learned a thing or two about management and were masters of tactics throughout.

The ice-cream van and Paddy’s burgers went down a treat, and rumour has it that a certain group of mentors felt it only right to discuss the games in the bar well into the evening.

Congratulations to all who took part in this festival – games were played in a great spirit with plenty of good hurling. It is worth noting that there wasn’t a single bad pull all evening and there was no injury of note to any player. Well done to the mentors from all age groups on their organisation, and thanks to the Camogie Committee for their support. Special thanks to the three senior players who presented each player with a medal – Mairead Luttrell, Laura Burns and Emer Lucey. Roll on the 13th Annual Mini All Ireland in 2016 !
