Minor A Football Championship. 22/09/2019. Vs. Round Towers. Venue: Clondalkin.

Result: Round Towers 0.08 Ballyboden St. Endas 4.15

The Minor A Football Championship campaign continued on Sunday morning with a trip to Clondalkin to take on Round Towers. Conditions were a little damp with rain showers throughout the match while the pitch at the Community Centre was in very good condition. Early points from Luke Byrne established a lead for Ballyboden with Conor Lowe and Harry Colclough providing plenty of possession from midfield.

The defence led by Eoghan Gannon and Jack Lambert worked very hard to limit any scoring chances for the home team while Ryan O’Dwyer and Luke added further points to stretch the lead. Two very good saves from the Round Towers goalkeeper denied the fast moving Pearce Christie from raising the green flag but the pressure eventually told with Ryan finishing a very good forward move to the net. The home side opened their account with pointed frees but the work of Cian Maher, Conor Hanrahan and Harry Donaghy in defence ensured very little room for the home attack. Sean O’Donnell continued to carry very good ball from defence as Jake Turley’s kick outs found their targets.

Further points from Luke, John McGuire and Conor Cullen left the half time score at 1.09 to 0.04 in favour of Ballyboden.

Early points from Round Towers early in the second half narrowed the gap but replies from Robert Cullen and Luke followed by a well taken goal from John stretched the lead. Another well worked moved resulted in Robert finishing superbly to the net. Eoin Behan, Dean Ralph and Enda Cashman worked hard in attack when introduced with Enda contributing a well taken point. Joe Maguire and Joey Donohoe ensured that the defence remained strong with the home team denied any clear sight on goal. Further points from Ryan and Robert stretched the lead before Ryan closed out the scoring with another superb finish for the fourth goal.

Referee, Seamus Farrelly, sounded the full time whistle with the final score at 4.15 to 0.08.

Well done to both teams for the spirit in which the match was played. The next championship match is at home against Na Fianna on Sunday October 6th. Thanks to the parents and the large Boden support who gave great encouragement to the team throughout the match. A special word of appreciation to the large number of senior players who travelled to provide support to the team.

We wish our injured squad members a speedy return to fitness.
