Minor Football. Division 1 League. 21/07/2019. Vs. Castleknock. Venue: Somerton Park.
Result: Castleknock 3.13 BBSE 5.14.
Round 10 of of the 2019 Minor Football Division 1 League campaign saw the Minor A team travel to Somerton Park to take on Castleknock on Sunday morning. Ballyboden won the toss and elected to play with the wind in the first half. An early point by Conor Cullen was countered by the home team before Adam Kelleher finished to the net for a well taken goal. Castleknock replied with well taken points while Adam Kelleher and John McGuire replied for Ballyboden. Robert Cullen and Conor Lowe were winning good possession in midfield with Robert converting two 45’s before scoring a fine individual goal by exploiting the space created by good forward movement.
In defence, Enda Cashman, Harry Donaghy and Sean O’Donnell were working hard to limit chances for the home team. A point by Luke Byrne was followed by Castleknock points before the home team scored a well worked goal to leave the half time score 2.8 to 1.6 in favour of Ballyboden.
Early points from John McGuire and Dean Ralph were followed by intense Castleknock pressure which resulted in two goals for the home team as the wind strengthened. Joey Donohoe, Jack Lambert and Conor Hanrahan were working hard in defence as Ballyboden regrouped with Luke Byrne finishing superbly to the net to give the lead back to the visitors. Jake Turley was kicking well into the wind and Eoin Behan announced his arrival by finishing to the net while Castleknock continued to notch points from play and frees. David Keogh and David Keane worked extremely hard following their introduction with Pearce Christie and Adam Kelleher scoring points following good play by Conor Lowe and Conor Cullen. A good forward move ended with Eoin Behan scoring his second goal which was followed by a well taken point by David Keane to close out the scoring at 5.14 to 3.13 in favour of Ballyboden.
Well done to all the players from both teams on the high standard of football played on an excellent surface. Thanks to the parents and Boden supporters who gave great encouragement to the team throughout the match, to Miriam Doyle for the photos and to Linda Lambert for first aid.
The final league match is at home to Thomas Davis on Wednesday 24th July with two points separating the top four teams in the League.
