Minor A Hurlers through to Championship Semi-Final

BBSE 1-16 : St Judes  2-10

Our Minor A  hurlers took on St Judes in this local derby quarter-final contest last Sunday, in what turned out to be real hurling championship fare where physical combat was never far behind the technical prowess of both teams.

Before the match, management were faced with the dilemma of which elements to play with, as to play with the stiff breeze in the first half would be counter-balanced by having the sun blinding the backline for the first 30 mins. Sometimes you are better off losing the toss!

The ball was thrown in and Ballyboden played into the wind, or with the sun, whichever way you look at it, and early scores from the half forward line helped to settle the side down, and while Judes created many chances, the wind was foiling their striking as their wide count was already mounting before the chéad sos uisce. They did manage to sneak a goal and a few frees which had them ahead at little break.

With water on board, Ballyboden began to take this match by the throat, and the honesty of effort and intensity of their work rate paid dividends, and they had just taken the lead approaching half-time, when Judes struck for goal number 2 meaning their was a 2 point deficit to chew on with the half time oranges.

Both sides traded scores in the 3rd quarter of the game which left things very finally balanced and it was not until the Ballyboden forward line found some space, which had been denied them by a fine Judes defence all day, that a goal transpired, and not before time! A couple of points from play topped off a really gutsy display against a very strong and hard working Judes side who were unfortunate on the day.

  • The Minor B team had a fine win over Round Tower’s in Ballycullen to progress to semis on a scoreline of 1 15 to 0 11
  • The Minor C team had to travel away to St. Vincent’s and were beaten on a scoreline of 3 14 to 2 10
  • The Semi-finals for the A and B team will be on November 7th.
