Minor Championship Final

Ballyboden St Endas 4-9 v Skerries 3-8

In near perfect conditions the two sides set out the first half at a ferocious pace with Skerries straight out of the blocks registering 2 quick and well worked goals. But in true Boden fashion the girls picked off some wonderful points after some great inter play with 3 points from Captain Emma Doyle and Marie McGrath thus working their way back into the game and leveling the score. Skerries clocked up 3 points with 5 minutes of the first half left but with a point each from Dianaimh Greene and Sarah Nagle and a terrific goal from Danielle White who came on as substitute for the injured Doireann Mullany, the Boden girls finished the half 2 points up 1-8 to 2-3.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first with some terrific action, reaction and clearances in both goal mouths – with Fiona Ryan proving the match for anything Skerries were throwing at her – she was ably assisted by the Boden backs and half backs Ciara Lambert, Sheena Garvey and Catherine McDonald combining with Lauren Falconer, Aly Doyle and Rachel Walsh all of whom were outstanding in their defense with substitutes Deirbhile Frain and Aoife Lambert filling in with comfortable ease.

At the other end of the pitch the Skerries goalie was certainly tested by our forwards who again with the quick and accurate passing of Danielle White and Doireann Mullany allowed Emma Doyle punch through to score 2 more goals. Doireann had returned to the side earlier in the half as sub for Aisling Moffat, despite her injury in the first half. To finish off what was a complete “team” performance Sarah Nagle and Dianaimh Greene took advantage of some slick passing through from the backs to register two more points Dianaimh from a 45 – with Orlaith Keane finding the net to ensure what was a decisive win. Full credit to Skerries who were for much of the match an equal match to ours but it was the combination of working for and with each other that showed through for Ballyboden. The captain who played a captain’s role was rightly voted player of the match.
