Our Minor B team had home advantage on Sunday for the visit of CBC in the Shield Final. It was scheduled for 10.30 on Cherryfield but a deluge of biblical proportions put paid to that plan. It was rescheduled for 11.45 on the Astro and, as luck would have it, the sun was shining like a summer day throughout the game.

The deferral resulted in us missing a couple of vital players but four U-15s stepped into the breach and all played blinders.

We had played CBC already this year and were lucky to escape from Dolphin Park with a 2 point win, so we knew this would be really close. The match started along expected lines with the lead changing hands time and again in the first half. We thought the score was level at half  time, but the referee had us 2 points down, so we needed a big effort in the second half, and the girls did not disappoint.

We regained the lead, only to be pegged back again as the game remained on a knife edge. Entering the final 10 minutes, the girls dug deep for one last effort and knocked in a few goals so that the supporters could relax for the final few minutes. Although the referee had us winning by 3 points, the general consensus was that the lead at the end was 8 or 9. However, all that mattered was the result, and the girls had finished the year with the Shield. Roll on 2023.

Full time score: Boden 7-03; CBC 5-06
