The hurley repair guy was put on standby as Fingallians came to town and to be fair they didn’t disappoint! It has become a feature recently that ‘A Teams’ only turn up with 13 players which causes no end of difficulty for our match day squad selection committee so the game played out like a mini sevens game from the sunshine of Kuala Lumpur, on the prunty, as one team and then the other took turns to attack! Boden were first off the mark. The ‘Turbo’ was running on maximum for this encounter and we could not believe our eyes when James Hanrahan chipped the keeper from close range to give us the best of starts. This was followed by a neat point from play and we began to wonder was this going to be one of those days.
Our defence was on top and some fantastic performances at the back kept Fingallians to long range points and the odd free! Eoin Duffy put in a man of the match performance at the back winning every ball that came his way. Darragh O’Neill and David Barrett kept the half forward line quiet. The forwards too put in a great shift with Adam Fisher and Cillian Brandon covering a massive amount of ground.
Boden looked good for a win leading by 6 points with 10 minutes to go. But ‘Is iomaí cor sa tsaol’ and despite our best efforts a late flurry of points and an even later goal brought Fingallians level. Fingallians subsequently pointed a free with only two minutes on the clock however Mathew Nolan got one last chance from a dead ball from which he made no mistake. A draw a fair reflection – probably not! But it gives us great hope for the future!
