Result: 6-08 to 1-05

MFL 3 South  – Sancta Maria  8/4/18

One may have been tempted to raise an eyebrow as to why pitches were called off on Ballycullen when these two teams gathered at 11am on Sunday morning in near perfect conditions for football.

Unfortunately, St Pats arrived with depleted numbers which meant that both teams had to play with 14.  This was put to good use by ‘Boden with the two man full forward line of Patrick Molloy and Cian Corcoran exploiting the space presented to them and ensuring the home team were well on top throughout both halves. The message at the start of the game was to work, and there was no better example of this than our midfield paring of Robert Cullen and Joe McGrath.  They not only grafted for the full hour but used the ball extremely well to feed the aforementioned dynamic duo in the full forward line.As often happens with one sided games, our defence had to hold concentration for long periods without seeing much of the ball.  When called upon however, Alex Craven, Daire Lynch and the pocket rocket that is Daragh O’Nell were never found wanting.

There will be tougher challenges in this league but this was a great morning’s work from the lads who have the makings of a serious team.

Finally, a special word of thanks to Karl Woods for his exceptional accuracy as stat man today.
