Our G4M&O team were delighted to accept an invitation to play our neighbours St Jude’s for their first ever G4M&O match on Sunday 29thJanuary 2023. Less than a year ago, our team struggled to field enough players at matches, sometimes having to borrow one or two players from the opposing team. However, on this cold and windy January Sunday, Ballyboden St Endas had a strong panel of 21 in attendance to challenge St Jude’s, twelve of who only joined the panel in the Autumn of 2022, with several of our ladies making their first ever Gaelic football debut. We owe this increase to a successful recruitment campaign last year and also to our two wonderful coaches Ian and Ciaran who continue to support us on a weekly basis and who have taught us newfound skills and foster a love for Ladies Gaelic football.

From the outset, playing with 15 a side, St Jude’s proved to be fit and physical. Once we shook off the few initial nerves, Ballyboden demonstrated our ability to work well as a team throughout the whole field, challenging every ball and executing several points over the bar. The excitement of the match was palpable on and off the pitch. The support for St Jude’s was commendable and we were delighted to have our very own cheerleaders on the side lines. The afternoon finished up with the teams treated to platters of food in the clubhouse. A great day was had by all.

Our G4M&O team trains every Tuesday at 8.30pm in Sancta Maria All Weather pitch.
