Go Ahead AHL 1

 Na Fianna 1 19 Ballyboden St Endas 2 18.

Boden Senior A hurlers travelled to Mobhi Road on Sunday 15th May 2022 for this AHL1 clash with Na Fianna. Despite the host’s defeat to Ballinteer in their last match, Boden management expected a response and a close match was indeed what emerged. With players from both teams on county duty with Dublin, it was a chance for management to test the depth of their respective squads.

Na Fianna started brightly and, with the aid of a stiff breeze, registered the first three points of the match. Boden then settled into the contest with Niall Ryan securing their opening point. A free from Paul Ryan followed by a fine point from Pearce Christie and another from the industrious Conor McKeon encouraged the visiting support. However, the accurate free-taking of Na Fianna corner forward Colin Currie kept the home side in front. Close contests were evident all over the field as both teams tussled to gain supremacy. Na Fianna held the advantage at the half-time break on a scoreline of 10 points to 7.

Instructions from management delivered, along with a handful of positional changes, the close encounters resumed with Boden closing the gap to two with Ryan again securing the opening score. The first real goal chance fell to Christie but Na Fianna keeper Jonathan Treacy pulled off a fine save. Shortly after that, the first green flag was indeed raised by the visitors following a close range effort from Boden’s Timmy Hammersley. Boden took the lead a few minutes later when Luke McDwyer goaled following a fine pass from Conor Dooley. Again, Na Fianna responded and a few points from frees and a goal from Michéal Murphy brought them right back to parity. Boden responded well once again and the cool marksmanship of Paul Ryan resulted in Boden edging ahead. A long-range point from Simon Lambert gave the team a lift as the last few minutes were played out in the manner of the previous 60. A good contest ended with Boden maintaining their unbeaten League record with the final scoreline Na Fianna 1-19 Ballyboden St Endas 2-18.  We now look forward to hosting St Vincents in Pairc Uí Murchú on 24th May.
