Ballyboden Senior B hurlers got their league campaign underway on Sunday 2nd March 2014 in Sancta Maria against Raheny. Last year’s match between these sides was an enthralling draw and it was felt that this year’s tussle could again turn out to be a close affair.  So it happened as the teams traded points in the first half, with Eoin McKenna in good form from the placed ball. Darragh O’Gorman and Paddy Ryan repelled most of Raheny’s attacks and accurate free-taking kept the northside team in touch. The key moment for Boden came at the quarter hour when Paul Doherty found space on the left and fired in a low shot to the net. Half-time Boden 1-6 Raheny 0-6.

Raheny made the better start, taking advantage of the slight breeze and scored the first two points of the second half to narrow the margin to one. Mattie Weldon and Keith McCarron were working hard in the middle of the field and points from Chris Lambert and James Madden kept Boden ahead. However, as the March monsoon arrived, Raheny seemed to respond better and fired over five unanswered points. The introduction of some subs gave Boden a late lift but in the end, the clock ran out to leave the final scoreline Boden 1-9  Raheny 0-16.
