The sun has been shining on the Bank Holiday weekend and the smell of BBQ’s is filling the air (apart from at my house where the gas has run out and no gas to be had in our 2km lockdown radius!!) However the Senior Camogie team are not the sort to rest on their laurels and under the stewardship of coach Matty Weldon, they are running a Decathlon (yes that’s 10 events) competition with the panel split into 3 teams, The Holy Ones, Toddlers Tuesdays & Teachers +1. The teams started on Saturday

Day one:

Saturdays events of ‘ press-up challenge’, ‘striking challenge’ and  3km time trial were hotly contested. Leading the way after day 1 were ‘Toddlers Tuesdays’ with 420 points. Second place were ‘The Holy ones’ with 236 and third were ‘Teachers +1’ with 201 points.  Toddlers Tuesdays lead position was helped by strong performances in the press ups taking the top two places (Hannah Leddy and Aoife Durkin with 50 each in a minute) and taking 2nd and 3rd in the other two events.  But with 7 events left, there is plenty of time for the other groups to claw them back if podium positions are won! All groups got the bonus 10 points for entering over 5 different scores in each event.

Day two:

A fascinating day 2 saw strong performances from all teams. Catherine Nagle taking first place in the ‘plank hold’ event with Doireann Mullaney claiming the 75 points for the ‘box jump’ event. Mairead Luttrell claimed the honours in the roll lift event. All to play for today on the final day with only 40 points separating the 3 teams!
