Senior A ladies v Na Fianna Shield Final 25/09/24

After a disappointing defeat to Thomas Davis in the Senior championship, our ladies footballers got some consolation when winning the Shield competition last Wednesday. They overcame Na Fianna in the final after a hard fought semifinal victory over Fingallians the week previous. Weather conditions were atrocious but the football was fast and furious with chances squandered by both sides, particularly Boden, who had a number of goals chances early on. Scores from Kate Donaghy,Rebecca McDonnell and Natalia Hyland amongst others had us leading by 4 pts at the break 0.7 to 0.3, with Dublin star Hannah Tyrell popping over frees for Na Fianna.

The vital score of the game, a goal, came midway through the second half from our captain Ciara Ruddy who finished off a wonderful move to the net to put us in a commanding position. Na Fianna, to their credit, battled back with Tyrell’s frees keeping them in contention.
Dublin captain Leah Caffrey was also in action for the Northsiders and she showed her class with one outstanding block in the first half stopping a certain goal. The last few minutes were tense with Na Fianna looking for a goal to draw level but Boden’s defence held firm with Aoife O’Brien, Alice Rudden, Cliona McGowan and goalkeeper Ali Ramsden particularly prominent.
Final score: Ballyboden St Endas 1.8
       Na Fianna 0.8
Congratulations to all involved.
