This was the third year of the Boden Christmas tree collection. In 2014 we collected 700 trees, and last year we were delighted to reach 1,000. This year we added some new advertising signs, and also branched out into Churchtown, and so hoped to improve on last years total.

The rain cleared before 8am as the troops polished off their porridge. In total 19 vans / jeeps & trailers were out in force from 9am, covering from Firhouse over to Churchtown and beyond. Most vans were staffed by 3 men, and we also had some foot soldiers in the larger estates gathering the trees in advance.
Back in the car park Cathal O’ Regan and Pat Reynolds were ably assisted by Sarah Reynolds in keeping everything under control. Once again many thanks to AJ Grab Hire and to driver Leigh for the hard work during the day in depositing the trees to the council depot in Tymon Park.
Yvonne & Rachel Walsh were manning the extremely busy telephone line, while Catherine & Pauline kept the troops well nourished.
By 4pm most of the trees were collected, and the car park was cleaned up. We met up in the Club to count the takings and were thrilled when we realised that we had exceeded 1,500 trees. From talking to so many people whose tree we collected, it is also very clear that the general public is thrilled with this initiative and that we are providing a great service to the community.
It was all about the hard work….Cathal!!!!!!!!
We would like to thank the local community for their support, and also pay credit to the work done by our army of volunteers on Saturday, your efforts are very greatly appreciated. Many thanks also to those who assisted in the distribution of the many thousands of flyers in late December while walking off the turkey!
