Monday evening’s clash with St. Brigids was always going to be tough and so it proved on a windy evening in Cherryfield in front of enthusiastic support from both teams. Brigids won the toss and played with the wind at their backs in the first half. They started strongly putting a couple of points up but the Boden girls battled hard to stay with them and registered a couple of scores of their own, one of which a goal put them in the lead. The action continued to swing both ways and any score was hard fought. The referee had to keep a close rein on the action with every ball fought for by both teams as if lives depended on it. As the half time whistle blew, both teams had scored 5 times although 2 of Boden’s scores had rippled the net so they turned with a lead.

Turning around with a 4 point lead and a wind at their back gave the Boden girls a good degree of confidence going into the 2nd half. This confidence was enhanced when the Brigids keeper was beaten for a third time. However this was a quality Brigids team and they were still well in the game. A few points were exchanged before an intense period of pressure from Brigids led to 2 penalties and a number of goalmouth scrambles. However, crucially the Boden goal was not breached with one penalty over the bar and the 2nd saved and some super backs-to-the-wall defending. Having weathered the storm, the Boden girls pushed forward and finally killed off the game with 3  goals to give the scoreboard a more flattering look.
