The recently-opened all-weather pitch in Sancta Maria was “christened” in style on Saturday evening as the Under 14 footballers won the Division 1 League under lights reports Joe Roche.

This game was the final game of the league season, a back match against Templeogue Synge Street, and the players responded in style, winning out in the end on a scoreline of 3-24 to 1-3. The conditions were perfect and Ballyboden set about their task immediately moving the ball at pace and picking off some fine scores. A notable feature of the game is that all of Boden’s scores came from play and in total twelve of the panel got on the scoresheet throughout the game, an indication of the strength in depth in this squad.

The league win was just reward for the team who performed consistently well throughout a long and intensive season. In total, the team lost just two games in all competitive and challenge matches in the year with their final league record reading Won 11, Drawn 2, Lost 1.

Congratulations and great credit must go the panel comprising Aaron Ennis, Barry Higgins, Ben McAuliffe, Cathal Flaherty, Conor Maher, Conor McHugh, Conor McKeon, Daniel Buckingham, Darragh Birmingham, Dara Hyland, Dara Walsh, Daragh Kilduff, Dean Doyle, Donal Butler, Dylan Soon, Eoin Lewis, Eoin Rodgers, Evan Flanagan, James Roche, Neil Jordan, Niall Keegan, Ryan Gillen, David Gillen, Sam Maloney & Sean Keller. Well done and thank you all for some great moments throughout the year.

In addition, the management team of Jimmy Walsh, Ger Flaherty, Neil Buckingham and Tony McKeon deserve great praise for their coaching and preparation of the team. Finally, a word of thanks to the team sponsors, Diatec and the parents, families and friends of the team who provided significant support throughout the year.
