Result: 1-08 to 2-12

It was a bruising encounter for our u21b team in Pairc Ui Mhurchú against last year’s champions St. Margaret’s. We got off to a slow start with Margaret’s notching 2-04 without reply after 15 mins. We slowly worked our way into the match and scored 3 pts in a row. We were starting to play now after our sluggish start. On the stroke of half time Conor Barton’s 45 found the top corner of Margaret’s net, a goal messi would be proud of.

We went in at the break 4pts down, still all to play for.
A couple of changes in our team at half time kept us on the front foot. Dan o’riordan was denied a goal by a brilliant save from the Margaret’s netminder. A couple of injuries to key players disrupted our play but credit to the lads, they never gave up. We got the match back to 2 pts with 2 minutes left and it looked like we might get something from the game. Ruairi (bagsy) kirwan slotted a penalty and another could’ve been awarded moments later but we were denied. Margaret’s ran out 2-12 to 2-07 winners and probably deserved it on the day.  Our lads will have learned a lot from this match. They are all underage again next year. Some serious potential amongst this dedicated squad of young lads. Stephen McGrath was excellent in goal. Our full back line of ruairi Bradshaw, kev Cronin and co-captain Shane bobbett were excellent.
Half back line of fionnán Keogh (co-captain), Barry Odonnell and Ruairi kirwan had were brilliant in defence and contributed in attack as well, Ruairi in particular took over the freetaking duties and pretty much played in the forwards for the 2nd half. Our midfield of conor Barton and Sam lally excelled throughout. Half forward line of Dan o Riordan, Rory knight and Jack Basquel were industrious throughout. Jack in particular shipped alot of punishment from his marker but never once did he not show for the ball. On another day our full forward line of eoin and Ciaran cashman and Phil McCormack would have scored 4/5 goals. Great link up play but were unlucky on the day. Our bench made a difference with Charlie mcpartlin, cian Lynch, Jamie Kavanagh, luke bolger and karl weldon all contributing.
On behalf of the management team, we would like to thank the players for their commitment over the last while. They were a pleasure to train and coach.
They have great futures playing for this club.
