The Go Ahead Adult Hurling Leagues resume this weekend with a novel opening clash in AHL 1. This season we have two teams in the top division and they will go head to head on Saturday morning in Sancta Maria.

It’s not the first time it has happened that two teams from the same club have clashed in the first game of the new season. How can this happen, one might ask?

AHL 1 League Champions 2023

Our “first team” are the reigning League Champions, having secured the title last August. Our “second” won promotion to AHL 1 by virtue of winning their promotion play-off last year when they beat Ballinteer St. John’s to secure the right to play in the top division.  As stated above, it’s not the first time we have been in that position…exactly the same thing happened in 2008 when Liam Hogan’s “A” team played “Emmet Pullan’s “B” team in the first match of that years AHL 1. The match was played in Ballycullen with a win for the “A” team in a highly competitive game.

AHL 2 Promotion Winners 2023

We have lots of new faces since that last clash, where both players and management are concerned. Having of the order of fifty or more players playing Division One creates a very strong platform for this year’s championship. We should feel very grateful to have such a healthy pipeline of hurling talent in Boden. This occasion of our opening league game, is an opportunity to celebrate that fact. For members who love hurling, this game will be a real treat.

Good luck to both teams ….shouting for both A’s and B’s to-day is highly recommended! Please show your appreciation for our two Division 1 teams and consistent with our values, respect for the referee and match officials.

Of course we have 3 other teams in action this weekend. The Division 8 team commence their campaign in Donabate on Friday evening. The Division 3 will be away to Bray Emeets on Sunday morning with the Division 5 team at home to Cuala in Ballycullen.

Best of luck to all teams for the year ahead.
