Wednesday evening was an eventful one for the Adult Hurling Section. The What’s App group was being closely monitored for updates as our top two teams were both playing vital matches at the same time. One game was in PUM and the other just over a mile away in O’ Toole Park. Patrons had to decide which team to view live both games did not disappoint.

Captain, Niall McMorrow with the AHL 1 League Trophy

Our AHL 1 team were crowned League Champions after defeating Na Fianna 0 20 to 1 12 in O’ Toole Park. This was the club’s 10th Division 1 title and our first since 2018. Niall McMorrow proudly accepted the trophy on behalf of the team. A full report on the game can be viewed by clicking here . Thanks to Clíona for the photos. To view, click here

2023 AHL 1 League Champions

The game in PUM was a promotion play-off. The prize was a place in Division 1 next season and our “second team” faced Ballinteer St. John’s with the winner taking all. This game was added some intrigue as the Ballinteer St. John’s manager is a Boden stalwart who is still playing with our Junior B team – Emmett Carroll. The game did not disappoint as it went down to the wire. Boden came out top on a score of 2 17 to 1 15 but the scoreline did not reflect the fact that with the game entering injury time, we were facing the prospect of extra time.
A significant breeze ( some said it was a six pointer) blew straight into the Cremorne end. Some excellent scores from Leon Kennedy kept Boden in touch but still they faced a seven point deficit at half time. It didn’t take Boden long to draw level on the resumption. A Keith McCarron goal from a long range, wind assisted, free ended up in the back of the Ballinteer net proved and the score put Boden in the driving seat.  After 15 minutes of the second half Boden were level but Ballinteer to their credit did not lie down and even led the game as it approached injury time. A second Boden  goal from substitute Darragh Kenny, after another speculative long range free from McCarron, broke the opposition resolve. A couple of insurance points were added before the final whistle was sounded. The win means that Naoise Maguire’s team will play in AHL 1 next year when the likely opposition in the first game will be the newly crowned League Champions, Ballyboden St. Endas!
