The Senior B hurlers had a fine win over a very good St. Maur’s team and are now in an unassailable position at the top of AHL 3 . There is one more game against Parnells on August 24th before finally popping the champagne. Well done to Brendan Moran and his team.

AHL Division 3 Result St Maurs 1 – 14 Ballyboden St Endas 1 – 20.
Ballyboden’s Senior B team recorded another vital win in the AHL Division 3 league. Barring completely, a freak set of circumstances, this magnificent win over St Maurs guarantees not only that our team will gain promotion in 2020 to the AHL Division 2 league structure, but that we will gain promotion as Champions.
This was an unique game, because exactly the same set of circumstances applied to St Maurs , if they had won.
From the throw in, you could feel the intensity on the sideline, as both teams tore into one another from the start. While both teams gave it their all, the game was played in a very sporting manner,
In the 1st half, Boden had to withstand intense pressure from St Maurs and although playing into a slight wind and against the slope, the players from Boden fought tenaciously for every ball and at half time the score was St Maurs 0 – 10 Ballyboden 1 – 7. The goal we scored in the 1st half was vital in sustaining our effort and well done to Kevin Desmond for getting this vital score.
At the beginning of the 2nd half, we scored 3 points in a row and seemed to be coasting to victory. Not a bit of it as St Maurs fought back and reduced our lead to a single point. However our team “kicked on ” again and we scored a number of terrific points, to lead by 6 points. Then St Maurs scored a goal, reducing our lead to just 3 points and aided by roars of encouragement from the home crowd, St Maurs once again raised their game. However we were not finished yet and in the final few minutes we tagged on another few points, to extend our lead.
Every single player for Boden played with great courage & gave their all. However it is appropriate to single out a few players for their extraordinary accomplishments. Conor McKeon in midfield had his best game in a Boden shirt. He was a driving force throughout the game and scored 3 points from long range. Karl Reddy in defence was outstanding as indeed were all the other defenders. Upfront Kevin Desmond got better and better as the game progressed and James Enright had a very good game, getting a couple of points and chasing their defenders when they had possession.
However Man of the Match award must go to Conor O’Donoghue our goalkeeper. Conor scored 8 points of which 6 of them were at least 100 yards or more. Every free was a pressure strike, but Conor never wavered and his accuracy was stunningly accurate.
Our final league match will be against Parnells on August 24th and hopefully we will celebrate the occasion in style (after the match is over of course)
Scorers for Ballyboden were
Conor O’Donoghue 0 – 8
Conor McKeon 0 – 3
Gavin Corrigan 0 – 3
Kevin Desmond 1 – 0
Mark Lambert 0 – 2
Shane Kennedy 0 – 2
James Enright 0 – 2
