Our Senior B hurling team recorded their finest league win of the season , by beating Round Towers in a top of the league clash in Pairc Uí Mhurchú on Wednesday 24th July. Round Towers are a physically strong and skillful side which made the win for the Senior B team all the more rewarding.
Straight from the throw in, our players were really focused on the task that faced them and while in previous games, we have been a little slow “off the blocks” that did not happen in this match. At half time we led by 2 – 11 to 0 – 6 and from the start of the 2nd half we maintained that dedicated determination to push forward at every opportunity.
Every single player on the team contributed to this magnificent win. However a number of players deserve special mention. Matthew Nolan in goal had an outstanding game and our entire defence played really well, especially the “spine” of our defence led by Peter Buckeridge and Jamie Desmond. Up from Shane Kennedy had the game of the season by scoring 3 – 1 and Mark Lambert had his “eye in” by scoring no fewer than 12 points both from frees and open play. All our forwards and midfield worked really hard to secure this win, and a special mention must be made to Neal Farrell & Pearce Christie who both came on as substitutes for their league debut for the Senior B team and made their mark. It should also be noted that no fewer than 12 of our players got on the score-sheet.
The team now has a break until the 10th August when our next game is against Kilmacud Crokes who like ourselves are joint leaders. Our team will look forward to the occasion.
