With more players missing for various reasons, this was always going to be a difficult
assignment. And so it proved.
Na Fianna had three points on the board within 7 minutes but then, following a good
run by Donogh McCabe, the ball was crossed to Daire Sweeney who palmed the ball
to the net. The home team and Darren O’Reilly then exchanged points. The Na
Fianna pressure eventually paid off on 16 minutes when a good move was finished
to the Boden net, giving Darragh Gogan no chance. This was quickly followed by a
point that was cancelled out by a Daire Sweeney free. However, Na Fianna got
another goal to put them six points ahead. John McGuire and Ciarán O’Reilly scored
two good points from play to close the gap, but Na Fianna added another point just
before the half time whistle, leaving the score at 1 – 4 to 2 – 6.
The first 20 minutes of the second half were well contested with Na Fianna scoring
three points in the first 10 minutes which were followed by two Boden points by Daire
Sweeney (free) and Darren O’Reilly to keep the visitors in touch, with just six points
between the sides. However, the remaining 10 minutes saw Na Fianna score two
more goals and four points with a solitary pointed Darren O’Reilly response.
