BBSE 4 14 St. Jude’s 3 06

It was a relief to see the monsoon conditions on Saturday give way to a very pleasant warm sunny day for this local derby in the Match 1 of the group stages of the U17 Minor A Hurling Championship.

Both teams settled into the game well early on with plenty of energy and enthusiasm with a little bite as you’d expect. Both teams found the net in the first quarter with Judes striking first blow to be followed by the impressive Lee McConnell for Boden by return.

It was Boden’s capacity to take their points far more efficiently than the opposition that was to become a telling factor as the game progressed into the second quarter. While Judes answered again with a second goal from their full forward, it was the turn of Darragh Delaney for Boden to close the door again with two quick goals before Half Time. Boden led 3-11 to 2-03 at HT.

Boden were far less prolific in the second half and found it hard at times to get the ball up the pitch. Boden frustratingly had taken the foot of the pedal and allowed Judes far too much territory in the second half. However it was the turn of the Boden defence to shine and while Judes put the pressure on, Boden defended admirably. Special mention to Mark Mcglynn who ran himself to a standstill with a superb performance.

2 points on the board with room for improvement. Onto to the next game v Erins Isle on Sunday week.
