Boden Senior 2’s Come Up Short

Our Senior 2 Camogie team got their season up and running last Thursday night under flood lights in Ringsend against a well balanced  Clanna Gael team . With a host of girls making their debut in Adult Camogie, Declan O’ Brien’s charges gave a very good account of themselves  in the first Cup game of the season before eventually going down on a scoreline of 3-4 to 0-5.

Clanna Gael made the better start with two quick goals as our girls adjusted to the quicker tempo. However, Ballyboden soon settled, ably led by the experienced trio of Mary Hyland, Ciara Lambert at the back and trojan work by Aoife O’Brien at midfield. Tigerish defending by Nicola McCarthy ,  Saoirse Fitzgerald,  Derbhla De Frein and  Saoirse Hassett kept further Clanna Gael scores to a premium. Our half forwards of  Lauren Bentley and Aisling McCullough came more into the game as the half progressed as they battled against Clanna Gael’s strongest line.

Behind by 2-4 to 0-2 at halftime, Ballyboden were the dominant force in the second half led by Ciara Barnes and Aine O’Brien.  A point blank save from goalie,  Sarah Mulvey , was the catalyst for increased effort and commitment throughout the field and Ballyboden came close to goals on a number of occasions with  the Clanna Gael goalie denying fine efforts from Hannah Conway , Chloe Murphy  and  Muireann Delaney.  A couple of fine points by  the skilful Elizabeth Manning reduced the deficit but notwithstanding the efforts of Hannah Tevlin, Roisin McKeon and Aoife Murphy, Clanna Gael held firm for a deserved victory.

All in all, a great effort on the night from a young team and with a  couple of experienced players to come back, the team will be looking to overturn this result when the sides meet again in the first round of the league on 5th April.
