Senior A Camogie Report 30th Aug 2020

Boden bow out of Championship after Semi-final defeat.

St Vincent’s 1-23 BallyBoden St.Enda’s 0-3.

The Boden Senior Ladies camogie team lost to a superb Vincent’s outfit on Sunday. St Vincent’s, who are the reigning Dublin and Leinster champions, raced into an early lead, scoring a goal and 3 points inside the first five minutes. Try as they might, Boden could not stem the tide and by half time were behind on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-1. Boden did create some scoring chances in the half but only had a Sarah Nagle long range free to show for their efforts. St Vincent’s did not let up in the second half and any chance of a Boden comeback was quickly erased as St Vincent’s piled on the pressure scoring points from distance. The Boden ladies fought valiantly to the end and a point each from Laura Nagle and Katie McDonald as well as an excellent save from Síle Ni Coitir was some reward for their efforts. However, St Vincent’s powered ahead to a final scoreline of 1-23 to 0-3.

Team: Síle Ni Coitir, Eve O’Donoghue, Hannah Hyland, Hannah Leddy, Aoife Durkin, Sarah Nagle (Captain)(0-1), Grace Walsh, Katie McDonald (0-1), Doireann Mullany, Martha O Donoghue, Laura Nagle (0-1), Danielle White, Dearbhla Brennan, Aisling Gargan, Eimear O’Leary, Ally Ramsden, Laura Burns, Ciara O’ Neill, Jodie White, Erin Christie, Darina Ryan, Mairead Luttrell.

A disappointing exit from the Championship was not the conclusion of the 2020 campaign our team was looking for. Despite the challenges we faced with lockdown and social distancing measures imposed in mid March, morale was kept high through multiple zoom gym sessions and quizzes, and bank holiday weekend competitions. The management, with Terry O’Neill and Matty Weldon, have developed the team massively over the past two years, and we are all very grateful for their insight and experience. We are very appreciative of all the support from the Boden Camogie Committee with Dan O’Sullivan at the helm, who have also ensured a safe and friendly environment with stewarding and ticketing. Finally, we would like to thank the supporters who have been with us both in person and virtually, who have provided unwavering encouragement. We will regroup over the coming weeks and prepare for the remaining Cup games with Championship 2021 in our sights.
