Inaugural Courtville Jewellers Camogie and Hurling Ball-Wall Competition-a great success!

The matches may be on hold but the inaugural Courtville Jewellers sponsored ball-wall competition held over the Easter weekend gave rise to plenty of competitive Camogie and Hurling action. The Camogie competition featured the Senior A Camogie panel and the Senior B hurlers fought for the coveted bragging rights in the hurling competition.

The hurling report is not available at the time of going to press. It is thought that the delay has resulted from various ongoing disciplinary appeals arising from the competition (suggestions of impersonation and violent scenes being posted in the ball-wall video by the eldest son of the Club Chairman and Drama Group Queen being some of the concerns). No such difficulties with the Camogie competition however where all was above board. The competition started on Friday evening and finished in a thrilling last hour on Monday evening.

Competition Rules

Hit the ball against the wall followed by a clean catch as many times as you can and post your video.

 Video Highlights

There was great ingenuity in finding a wall within a 2km radius of     home, particularly after some participants were moved on by unhappy neighbours. The competition attracted international entries with Laura Nagle and Jodie White flying in from LA and Madrid respectively. Sarah Nagle kindly let her sister beat her as a welcome home gesture. Martha O’ Donohue’s brother was unimpressed with his intercounty sister’s ball-wall performance – ‘Depressing” is how he described it in the video. Martha redeemed herself with a change of wall and camera operator (Eve being much more supportive). Kitman Bernard misunderstood the rules and posted a video of himself doing press-ups in his garden (it won’t be going on general release).

Oh and the results… After a nail biting finish the prize winners were:

1st  Doireann Mullany 278

2nd Ciara O’Neill 264

3rd  Darina Ryan 204

Presentations of the very generous vouchers were made via a virtual gathering on Monday night by the Managing Director of Courtville Jewellers, Mr. Matthew Weldon . Thanks to Club Chairman, Ciaran Maguire, for his attendance on the night.
