The Intermediate’s second match in the all-county championship didn’t go according to plan.
On a breezy Saturday evening in Tymon Park Boden expectations were high playing last year’s county champions on a very narrow home pitch. However from the off and despite playing against a strong breeze the home team dictated the opening exchanges. In the fact the earliest exchange was dominated by poorly informed umpire who signalled a point that was clearly wide. By the 10th minute Jude’s were three points to the good with Boden failing to make any real impact on the game. Mikey Dunne and John Murphy pulled a couple of points back by the 16th minute. We also had a couple of wides that didn’t help our cause. Jude’s slotted over another couple of points to leave the score 5 points to 2 at the break. Some decisions went against us in the opening period with Mono being tripped while bearing down on goal being the obvious unsavoury moment.
Within five minutes of the restart the home team had added 1-2 to their tally. The game had just got tougher. We continued to battle and eventually began to dominate the play without ever showing the dominance on the scoreboard due in part to the packed defence. David Hayes had a shot blocked midway through the half but that was as close as we got to a goal. Massive effort from Johnny and Leechie driving forward maintained some pressure but it wasn’t enough to get us over the line.
