Round 9 of of the 2019 Minor Football Division 1 League campaign saw the visit of St. Oliver Plunketts/ER to take on the Minor A’s on a pristine Pairc Ui Murchu on Wednesday evening. The torrential downpour had eased a little by 7.30 when referee, Ronnie Malone, got the match under way. Early points were exchanged with John McGuire and Luke Byrne on target for the home team. Harry Colclough and Pearce Christie were winning good possession at midfield at this stage with Adam Kelleher, John McGuire and Luke Byrne converting this into a series of well taken points. Conor Hanrahan then finished superbly to the net following a very good move before Plunketts replied with some well taken points.

Malachy Codd had to retire injured during the first half with Joe Maguire proving a hard working replacement at centre forward. Jack Lambert and Patrick Dunleavy led the defence in curtailing the chances for the Plunketts forwards. Half time arrived with the score at 1.11 to 0.7 for the home team.

The second half began with Ballyboden applying further pressure resulting in points for Dean Ralph, John McGuire and Pearce Christie while the visitors stayed in touch with some good shooting for points. John McGuire and Adam Kelleher then added two well finished goals as the home team stretched the margin with Harry Colclough and Joe Maguire adding further points. Luke Mulligan Lynch, Cian Hassett and Oran Dunne worked very hard on their introduction with Cian finishing superbly for the fourth goal.

The visitors continued to add points before raising a green flag despite Luke Turley’s trojan efforts to save. Eoghan Gannon, Cian Maher and Sean O’Donnell defended very well to limit chances to the visitors. Adam Kelleher capped a fine performance with 2 points to close out the scoring with the home team ahead 4.18 to 1.16 at the final whistle. Well done to all the players from both teams on a very sporting game played in difficult conditions.
