CBC 3-6

BBSE 4-5

Our Minor B team opened their championship campaign away to CBC on Sunday. The teams have locked horns on a number of occasions in recent years and there is rarely more than a puck of a ball separating them at the end, and so it proved on this occasion.

Our team was bolstered by the addition of a number of girls who had played U16A last year, but the team hit the ground running and had the ball in the CBC net in the opening minutes.

However CBC found their groove quickly and took the game to Boden and answered with a goal of their own. They also tagged on a couple of points to lead by two at the first water break. The second quarter saw the intensity rise a notch on both sides and the teams again traded goals. We suffered a blow late in the half when Sadhbh, who had been playing a blinder, had to leave the field injured and CBC managed to keep their noses in front until half time.

We began the second half with an early goal from Hannah Bury but the lead continued to change hands, and the teams were all square at the final water break. The girls resolved to put in a mighty effort in the final quarter and took the lead late on but the play continued to flow from end to end and our defence stood up resolutely to anything that CBC threw at them.

The final whistle was a welcome sound to all Boden ears but in truth it was a game that neither side deserved to lose. It was a super team performance from the Boden girls, and it would be unfair to single out individuals as we had 17 heroes on the day.

Our next outing will be home to Towers in a little over a week, and another stern test is expected.

If the game is half as good as their opening game it will be worth the wait.
