Ballyboden St Endas 7-15  Clan na Gael/Fontenoy 4-5,

 Sancta Maria – 6th October 2019

On a perfect morning for football, our Minor B footballers had a great win on Sunday against a solid Clann na Gael team in the last group game of the competition. Both teams had been defeated by Erin’s Isle who were group winners before a ball was kicked. This was an all or nothing match, with the victors marching on to the quarters and the losers calling it a day for another year.

‘Boden started well and had registered 1-3 before Clann na Gael got off the mark.   When they did, with a goal, our lads went back up the far end and returned the compliment. This was to be the pattern of the game. The visitors struggled to get to grips and control any amount of possession. ‘Boden however were first to most balls and used it well to which the finishing score line bears statement.

A few notable mentions were: Luke Mulligan-Lynch who had a fine game, shoring up their main play maker and getting on the score sheet himself with a goal; Kevin Kirwan at mid field gave a masterful display of high fielding; Peter Gannon worked hard all day and Cian Leahy at half back seemed to be everywhere, getting on loose ball and using it with guile beyond his young years!

The quarter final now awaits this team which is the only B team playing in this competition.  A performance like this in the next round could see this team go further, and who knows where after that!!

Fográ: A thank you to Donal Griffen and Mono’s Da for some outstanding umpiring in the game.
