Great Start for Minor B team

(An t-Iománaí ar an gClaí report)

This was the first day out for the minor Bs so there was great expectation and anticipation  to see what this new bunch of lads, some of whom had never played a competitive fixture together, would bring. The match began in a cagey enough manner with both teams trying to adapt to the soft conditions under foot but after ten minutes the Boden lads found their rhythm and began to take their scores. Liam Mac Pháidín popped up with the first score of the game after 10 minutes, a point from close range, and was followed by Robert Lambert and Benjamin Hurley. Hurley did a lot of damage running from deep and eventually hit the back of the net to put some distance between the teams.

Lucan kept in touch but a second goal from young Hurley meant that Boden led by 2-3 to 0-3 at half time.

Mathew Nolan, this year’s captain, had a fantastic day out. Not only did he manage to keep a clean sheet but he also denied Sarsfields from the penalty spot after what looked like an innocuous enough type of a challenge in the box.

An introduction on new blood at half time gave the team a new impetus with Peter Byrne hitting the back of the net and Ruaidhrí Nolan and Adam Fisher, who was denied a goal with a dubious square ball in the first half, pointing from distance. Seán Lambert kept the scoreboard ticking over with some tidy frees and with the backs working tirelessly we managed to keep the Lucan scoring to a minimum.

It was difficult to pick out any player as Man of the Match but Benjamin Hurley’s 3-1 assured that the award went his direction.
