Ballyboden St. Endas 3-13, Faughs 0 – 8

The Boden girls got off to a fine start in this year’s championship with a convincing win over local rivals Faughs on Sunday in Pairc Uí Mhurchú. In a low scoring first half both teams showed championship nerves in this tough encounter and seemed to have cancelled each other out in the first half until a great move was finished to the net by Doireann Mullany before half time. Leading by 1-04 to 0-4 at half time the game was still very much in the balance during the second half until a four point unanswered salvo from the Boden girls put some daylight between the teams. Those scores broke the Faugh’s resistance and spurred on the Boden girls who now began to get on top of their opponents across the pitch. Very strong defensive work combined with some fine point scoring from play and two late goals from forwards Doireann Mullany and Aisling Gargan saw the Boden girls run out strong winners in the end. This was a good display against a determined team who put it up to the Boden girls for much of this match.  A combination of excellent score taking and strong defence by the Boden girls was evident throughout and augurs well for the games ahead.

A special thanks to everyone led by Chairman Dan (and extended family) for the organisation in management of the venue for the match. This was much appreciated by the team and management allowing them to focus on the match. Thanks also to John Kirwan for photographing the action – photos on Facebook.
