Ballyboden Senior B hurlers struck off for Monastery Road on Wednesday 2nd July in round four of the Championship to play Round Tower. A reshuffle due to holidays and injury allowed manager Ciarán Maguire to try out some new formations in the team. In perfect conditions on the excellent Tower pitch, Boden started brightly with a brace of points from Paddy Ryan and Finn McDonagh. Tower responded with a goal but within a few minutes, Finn McDonagh, who was moving well across the full forward line, struck for a goal. At the quarter, it was Boden 1-5 to 1-4 ahead. Eoghan O’Neill was having one of his best days in midfield, winning puckouts and turnovers, shipping hard tackles and popping over a few points as well. His colleague in midfield, Mattie Weldon, was working tirelessly and supplying good ball to the forwards. However, the Boden attack was not as accurate as usual, and under pressure from the green and white defence, shot a number of wides, that proved costly in the end. Half-time Round Tower 2-8 Boden 1-7.
With the breeze in the second half, Boden again started well with the first three points of the half from Niall Ryan, O’Neill and half-back Jamie Desmond. Towers steadied with a point but then a long ball in from wing back Keith McCarron went straight to the net to put Boden ahead by a point. Again, the Clondalkin men responded and were a point ahead at the three quarter mark. Two points by man of the match O’Neill brought Boden level with a few minutes on the clock. However, Round Tower ended the match in strong fashion and held on for the win on a scoreline of 2-16 to Boden 2-13. This was a good match between two teams not afraid to press forward at every opportunity. With one match to go in the group, Boden stay on top and meet Whitehall Colmcille in the final group match on 16th July.
