Result: 2-04 to 2-10

St Vincent de Paul Cup v St Judes – 26 February 2017.

Ballyboden St Endas 2 – 4; St Judes 2 – 10

This was not a good morning for football with gale force winds blowing across the field. Whatever advantage was available from the way the wind was blowing was in our favour but St Judes adopted better to the conditions and went into an early 4 point lead. Collie Dunne opening the scoring for us with a point from a free. Sam Molony added a good point from play but Judes were generally in control. However, a good move up the left wing found Collie Dunne behind the Judes backs and he made no mistake in finding the net. Judes quickly restored their advantage by finding the back of our net a few minutes later. Further points by Sam and Darragh Kilduff were cancelled out by another Judes goal leaving the half time score at 2 – 7 to 1 – 4.

The wind got stronger in the second half and we made little headway against a resolute Judes backline. A good move midway through the half saw Alan Flood bearing down on goal before off-loading to Darren O’Reilly. Darren was dragged back and a penalty was awarded which was emphatically converted by Collie Dunne. This was our only score in the half. Judes cancelled this out with 3 points leaving the final score at 2 – 10 to our 2 – 4.

The players tried hard but it was largely an experimental team with many regular seniors unavailable for many different reasons. Next week sees the commencement of the league against the same opposition, St Judes. We expect to have a number of the regular players back in action and will be hoping for a better result.
