Senior football league v Fingallians, Páirc Úí Mhurchú, 17 July 2019

Ballyboden St Endas 2 – 17

Fingallians 1 – 5

This victory ensured a place in the last four league play-offs and also ensured that the team remains unbeaten with just three more league games to be played. Darragh Gogan got the show on the road with a well struck 45 and for the next 20 minutes it was one-way traffic as far as the score board was concerned. Alan Flood and Darren O’Reilly pointed from play before Ryan Basquel then took over scoring responsibilities first from a free, then three from play followed by another free. With 20 minutes gone, Fingallians got their first point but this was cancelled out by Alan Flood. As half time approached, the visitors got a second point and Ryan Basquel cancelled this out from a free, leaving the half time score at 0 – 10 to 0 – 2.

Fingallians got the first point of the second half but failed to add to it until time was nearly up. In the meantime, Conal Keaney, making his first appearance for the senior footballers this year, showed that he has lost none of his scoring ability by popping over a point from a difficult angle. Darren O’Reilly added another and then Declan O’Mahony dispossessed a Fingallians player, passed to Darren O’Reilly, who in turn passed to Ryan Basquel and he made no mistake by blasting to the net. This put 12 points between the sides and the game, for all intents and purposes, was over. Further points followed from Mikey Dunne and Ryan Basquel (free) and then, after Warren Egan burst through the visitor’s defence, he laid the ball off to Alan Flood who bravely finished to the net despite close attention from the Fingallians defence. Ryan Basquel (free), Darragh Gogan (45) and Darren O’Reilly completed the scoring for the home team. With time almost up, the visitors added a goal and two points to give the score line a more respectable look from their point of view.

Next up is St Judes on Saturday 27th July in Páirc Úí Mhurchú at 10.30 am (note change of time and venue).
