Sunday morning saw our 15’s play old rivals Lucan in a hum-dinger of a match. This was a lively, physical encounter with some outstanding individual performances. There were some tired legs as many of the squad had played a tough under 16 game on Saturday and ultimately that may have cost us. A final score of 3-1 to Lucan’s 2-6 showed a 2 point loss but that’s only half the story. Elaine Whelan dominated midfield for the opening 30, ably assisted by Muireann Delaney. Sinead Hussey was everywhere, and Hannah Tevlin covered more ground than you could imagine. Beth O’Neill discovered her old form as she put the ball on her stick and took flight consistently through the second half. Leah Fagan was unlucky not to find the net with her first touch since returning to play. Blathnaid Slater was outstanding until her early retirement due to a clash of heads – we wish her a quick recovery (good news is that her new helmet is still ok !!)  Robyn Flynn took three superb catches and cleared her lines each time. Deirdre Murray’s change of career to a forward almost paid dividends and she was a constant threat up front. Caoimhe Lynne made several crucial saves and her puck outs were consistently accurate. While this was a squad effort man of the match performance should probably go to Emily Sharkey. Tasked with keeping a very strong Lucan hurler quiet she did exactly that. Emily rarely got a chance to shine herself but blocked, flicked, tackled, and generally harassed her player out of the game. Highlight of the game was Sinead Hussey’s well directed 45 which rattled the back of the Lucan net – some score. Some sore tired bodies wandered back to the club at full time. A good morning out.
