Senior football league v St Judes in Tymon Park on 30 May 2023

Report by Paddy Walsh

Ballyboden St Endas 4 – 15

St Judes 1 – 12

Judes were quickly out of the blocks and had three points on the board in three minutes (2 fisted) before Boden realised there was a game on. Some sloppy efforts at point scoring followed for Boden before Daire Sweeney finished to the net following a good team move after 10 minutes. A minute later, Kieran Kennedy made a good interception to deny Judes possession. The ball found its way to Ryan O’Dwyer who finished coolly to the net. Ryan Basquel and Daire Sweeney added points from play before the home team added a point to their tally. Ryan O’Dwyer could have added two more goals but, unfortunately, he was in the square when Alex Gavin found him with a good pass, and he later hit the post when a goal seemed a certainty. Judes and Ross McGarry exchanged points before Judes got back in the game with a well-taken goal to leave just a point between the sides. Ryan O’Dwyer, Ryan Basquel (mark) and Daire Sweeney (free) added points for Boden, but Judes finished the scoring with a point to leave the half-time score at 2 – 6 to 1 – 6 in favour of Boden.

Judes were first to score in the second half, but Daire Sweeney cancelled this out from play. Then Eoin Behan made a good run for goal and passed to James Holland. James’s shot was blocked but he followed up and finished to the net. Daire Sweeney (free) and Ryan Basquel (2, 1 free) added points for Boden which were each cancelled out by points by Judes. Daire Sweeney added a point from play and from the kick out, Cein D’Arcy fielded a high ball, passed to Mikey Dunne who in turn passed back to Cein and he duly popped it over the bar. Judes and Ryan Basquel exchanged points before Ryan O’Dwyer popped over from play after a good pass from Michael McDonald. Darren O’Reilly finished the scoring for Boden with a point and a well-taken goal following a long run through the Judes’ defence. In between these scores, Judes had another point.
